Limited traffic zone

You have booked your Florence Bike tour with Italy City Tours but reaching the meeting point by car seems impossible? Don’t worry! Just follow our directions and you will join your tour without troubles!

As in every Italian cities, most of them are ancient, parking your car in the historical centre is not so easy. The historical centre of Florence is completely a limited traffic zone (or simply called ZTL) and to enter this area you need special permissions. This to limit the traffic and guarantee the security of the historical centre during the hours when there is a great affluence of pedestrians but also to maintain a low level of pollution. Here everyone who passes without permission will surely receive some pretty stiff fines! So if you are heading to the parking (inside the ZTL area) make sure that at your arrival the staff informs the police and communicate your plate number; in this way you won’t be included in the list of cars to be fined.

Now, the fundamental question is: where to park in Florence?

One solution is to park along the streets (N.B. pay and display parkings):

You can park along the streets, especially in the residential areas and outside the historical centre. It is the cheapest solution even though you have to walk 10 – 20 minutes to reach the city centre. Just pay attention where you park, use exclusively the areas delimited with blue lines (white areas are for the residents and yellow areas for handicapped people). Once parked, search for a parking meter, pay for the time you need and display the receipt on the dashboard to be clearly seen. There is only one problem with this kind of parking, it’s very hard to find one free since who lives in the area park their own car there.

Recommended area to park along the street:

If you want to try your luck, along the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia there are few parking areas. From here you can reach Santa Croce’s Church and the Uffizi in less than 10 minutes on foot!

Another solution is to park outside Florence:

For sure this is the most advantageous solution. You can park outside the city and then use the public transport service to reach the city centre. With one ticket valid for 90 minutes you can travel on tram and local buses. Don’t forget to buy the ticket in any tobacco shop at 1,50 euro or from the bus driver at 2,50 euro. It’s mandatory to validate the ticket once on the bus or tram.

Recommended area to park outside the city:

In less than 30 minutes you will reach the historical centre and enjoy the view of the city without worrying about the traffic and the parking.

One last solution is to use a covered car parking:
