Name: Hi, I’m Maja
Nationality and City of residence: I was born in Florence and I feel very proud of it!! I live near the city center because I need to be close to my city everyday!
Name of tour you lead and where: I lead Segway Tours!
Your favorite part of the tour: I have different parts of tour that I prefer but what I love most is segwaying through the allyways of the medieval side of the city, It feels like connecting the past and the present.
Favorite Local Restaurant in your city: My favourite restaurant is a small trattoria in the so called Oltrarno (literally meaning “the other side of the Arno” the river that crosses the city of Florence) called “Il Brindellone” (there’s no translation for this word, but it means lazybones) where the atmosphere is easy going and they serve typical and delicious Florentine food and it’s good value for money.
One thing visitors to my city can’t miss: The top of the Brunelleschi Dome! From up there you have a very special view of the city: you can sneak a peek at the terraces on top of private buildings (some have small gardens on them!) and you can also enjoy the wonderful historical palaces and squares. But for me, one of the most beautiful things is entering the Baptistery: you can enjoy the terrific mosaics and the calming feelin inside this beautiful monument.
Travel Mantra? Enjoy every minutes of your trip! Travelling is relaxing and even if your body is tired you’ll never feel the weariness because your mind is free.
What’s next on your travel bucket list? I have already been in Mexico and Cuba, but I would like to visit all the other countries in South America, like Perù, Brazil, Argentina.
What is your favorite Italian city to travel to? One of my favourite cities is Rome, I have been there recently and the time is never enough to visit it all.
What’s your best travel tip for those coming to visit Italy? Give yourself time to visit the cities and to meet people. Don’t rush. Look for the authentic places. History is interesting but moreover the people and their customs and traditions and here every city is different and has different traditions.
What’s the food that someone must try in your city before leaving? You cannot miss the “Bistecca alla fiorentina”, the T-Bone steak, cooked just 5 minutes and must be eaten rear and the “Pappa al pomodoro”, a thick tomato soup that is very delicious and special. And of course a glass of red wine.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had on one of your tours? Every day is for me a memorable experience on the segway tour because it’s fun and I have the chance to meet different people every time!!!
What do you like most about leading tours? I love telling people the history of my beautiful city, showing them our culture. I also enjoy pointing out hidden corners which are usually ignored but have curios stories about them. What is like most of all is to meet with people of different cultures and to accompany them on part of their journey here.
What makes your tour unique? My love for my city that I alway convey to the people!!!
